Silicon Drift Detectors for High Resolution, High Count Rate X-ray Spectroscopy at Room Temperature

چکیده
Silicon Drift Detectors (SDDs) consist of a fully depleted volume in which an electric field drives signal charges to a small sized anode. Due to their topology SDDs combine a large sensitive area with a small output capacitance. In an advanced SDD version for X-ray spectroscopy designed and fabricated at the MPI semiconductor laboratory the input transistor of the amplifying electronics has been integrated on the detector chip. That way the overall capacitance of the detector-amplifier system is minimized, guaranteeing excellent energy resolution and high count rate capability. The elaborated process technology used in the SDD fabrication stands for a low leakage current level allowing for operation at or close to room temperature.

متن کاملVortextm – a New High Performance Silicon Drift Detector for Xrd and Xrf Applications
A new class of silicon drift detectors (SDD), called “VortexTM”, with a large active area (~ 0.5 cm), high-energy resolution (<150 eV FWHM) and high-count rate capability (>1 Mcps) has been developed for X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) applications. The VortexTM design allows for a relatively large active area while still maintaining a very low anode capacitance (~ 60 fF). ...
متن کاملGated Silicon Drift Detector Fabricated from a Low-Cost Silicon Wafer
Inexpensive high-resolution silicon (Si) X-ray detectors are required for on-site surveys of traces of hazardous elements in food and soil by measuring the energies and counts of X-ray fluorescence photons radially emitted from these elements. Gated silicon drift detectors (GSDDs) are much cheaper to fabricate than commercial silicon drift detectors (SDDs). However, previous GSDDs were fabricat...
